The Bache Audio SOFIA-105 brings a quasi-coaxial driver arrangement and a 4.5-way passive architecture to a full-size floorstanding loudspeaker. Handcrafted in Brooklyn, New York, it combines Peerless bass and midwoofer drivers, aluminum/magnesium dome tweeters and a Fostex supertweeter in a bamboo plywood / MDF cabinet.
Designed for audiophiles building a dedicated stereo system, the SOFIA-105 focuses on precise sound imaging, natural tonal balance and detailed reproduction supported by deep, controlled bass. Its engineering and materials are intended to keep voices, instruments and low-frequency weight working together as a coherent presentation.
Quasi-Coaxial Imaging and a 4.5-Way Design
The front array brings two 6.5-inch Peerless SDS aluminum-cone midwoofers together with two aluminum/magnesium dome tweeters and a Fostex supertweeter. The quasi-coaxial layout is designed to support a stable, precisely located stereo image. A dedicated 10-inch Peerless low-resonance woofer handles the low-frequency foundation.
The passive crossover divides the operating ranges at 80, 600, 2,000 and 10,000 Hz. This multi-driver approach allows the system to address bass extension, midrange detail and upper-frequency reproduction within one floorstanding cabinet. The specified frequency response is 22 Hz to 28 kHz (±3 dB).
Cabinet Materials and System Matching
The bamboo plywood / MDF construction pairs the visible grain of bamboo with a substantial enclosure. Each speaker measures 45 × 10 × 15 inches and weighs 68 lbs. The supplied photographs show the cabinet finish, front driver array, side-mounted woofer and rear terminal panel.
With a sensitivity of 92 dB (2.83 V/m), an 8-ohm impedance and a recommended amplifier range of 10–120 W, the SOFIA-105 provides clear starting points for system matching.
